Cape May: A Place of History & Charm

WELCOME TO CAPE MAY

Located on the southernmost tip of the Garden State and within a 1-3 hour drive from the New York City and Philadelphia metropolitan area, lies the charming seaside community of Cape May, located in the county of the same name. Cape May is perhaps my favorite destination in New Jersey since it offers a perfect combination of history in elegant and beautiful Victorian architecture, charm, and plenty to discover. Come along on the journey!

Begin your day at Congress Hall’s Blue Pig Tavern for breakfast, brunch, or lunch, where they serve one of the most delicious eggs benedicts on the planet (in my opinion, ha!), and have a seat in rustic surroundings near a crackling fire. Once your meal is complete, head to the famous Washington Street Mall where you’ll find a pedestrian promenade with line to line locally owned shops and businesses selling local artisanal products, gourmet specialties, and lots more. Some of my favorite stops are found at Whale’s Tale, Across the Way, and Winterwood.

If you’re looking for a refreshment, Coffee Thyme is your place for specialty coffee blends and delicious fruity smoothies in a casual local perfect for the on-the-go.

You can then either continue to the Washington Commons which is a smaller shopping area adjacent to the Washington Street Mall or venture down to Beach Avenue and stroll along to admire views of the sea and extravagant hotels and Victorian homes along the way.

If you’re looking to escape the busy downtown center, head to Cape May Point and visit the famous Cape May Lighthouse where you’ll take in breathtaking views of the region and on a clear day, even see as far as the Delaware skyline. To catch a spectacular sunset, make a visit to Sunset Beach, located on the state’s southernmost geographical tip.

And of course no visit to Cape May is complete without a trolley ride around town where you’ll get a chance to discover the town’s past and their history as a sea-faring community.
