Long Beach Island: A True Gem of the Jersey Shore
By Anthony Gadaleta
WELCOME TO LONG BEACH ISLAND
An ideal getaway or perhaps a week-long trip to escape the hustle and bustle of the city with white-sand beaches, turquoise waters, adorable towns to wander and discover, outdoor activities, family-friendly fun, and one of New Jersey’s oldest lighthouses is located on the beautiful barrier island of Long Beach Island in Ocean County, NJ.
A haven for sun worshippers and outdoor enthusiasts alike, LBI offers small-town charm, world class beaches, and plenty to do that you'll never be bored. Stretching 18 miles long from the northern tip of Barnegat Light to the southernmost tip in Holgate are the lovely seaside communities, each with their own unique flavor and character, of Loveladies, Harvey Cedars, Surf City, Ship Bottom, Long Beach, and Beach Haven. Many travelers, including myself, primarily gravitate to the center of it all in Beach Haven where you can find all of the shops, restaurants, entertainment, and plenty more. One thing that can’t be missed on your visit is catching a classic LBI sunset along Barnegat Bay and witnessing the incredible colors before your dinner reservations or a stroll through Bay Village, a premier shopping destination for local products and delicacies.
A favorite spot of mine for some spectacular photographs can be found at Holgate Beach where you can take in the calming salty sea air of the Atlantic Ocean and appreciate the natural untouched beauty of the surrounding region around LBI. You can even get a glimpse of the iconic Atlantic City skyline on a clear day. Much of the nearby area are protected nature preserves that encompass the original natural beauty of the shore region. To the north, another favorite of mine includes Barnegat Lighthouse State Park where you can climb the Barnegat Lighthouse or “Old Barney” as the locals have called it, a few hundred steps to the top and take in panoramic views of the island. Plenty of photo-ops are in order!
Whatever you choose, an escape to LBI is a definite must!
